Russian boy and girl, both 15, livestream shootout with police after running away together and even post photos on Instagram before killing themselves
The duo live-streamed the shootout on video sharing app Periscope
The 15-year-olds have been named as Denis and Katya in Russian media
In the video, Katya is seen stating the couple have 'zero options'
Denis had earlier shot Katya's mother in the leg after the 15-year-old was told off for attending a sleepover without permission
Two schoolchildren live-streamed themselves in a shootout with police before turning the guns on themselves.
The 15-year-olds were found dead inside a house in the northwestern Russian Pskov region after the standoff.
The boy, named Denis, shot the mother of the girl, who was named Katya, in the leg.
The gunfight was broadcast on live video app Periscope, and pictures of them firing at police was also posted to Instagram.
The National Guard special forces said in a statement to TASS news agency that they found 'the bodies of a girl and a young man with clear signs of suicide', stressing they did not open fire.
On the chilling Periscope live stream, Katya is seen stating: 'We have zero options.'
And Denis added: 'If we don’t surrender, we die. But if we surrender, we will never see each other again.'
Such incidents are highly unusual in Russia, where access to guns is tightly restricted.
'This is a terrible tragedy. We're looking into the circumstances and the details of what happened,' Russian children's ombudswoman Anna Kuznetsova told TASS.
Investigators said they were trying to find out the reason for the 'desperate step' by the teenagers.
Investigators said police were called to the house in the village of Krasniye Strugi as part of the search for a missing teenager, only for a police car to come under gunfire.
Katya said in the footage posted on Periscope that there were guns in the house because her stepfather is 'in the special forces'.
Denis is shown firing a rifle from the window of the wooden house at a police van.
Special police spent hours negotiating then stormed the house using stun grenades and found the teenagers shot dead, investigators said.
The teenagers transmitted footage of their last hours in which they smoked, drank and answered classmates' messages.
They referred to conflicts with their parents and said they had been holed up in the house for three days.
Denis said that he had also shot Katya's mother in the leg, and the couple said they feared decades in jail if they surrendered.
Katya's mother had been infuriated when the teenager attended a sleepover without permission.
A teenage couple on the run from their parents live-streamed a shootout with police on Periscope before killing themselves, it is reported.
The 15-year-olds, dubbed the 'Instagram Romeo and Juliet', allegedly opened fire at a police van after barricading themselves inside a house.
Despite officers' attempts to negotiate with them, they then turned their guns on themselves and committed suicide, it is claimed.
It is reported they feared they would 'never see each other again' if they surrendered.
The teenagers , thought to be called Denis and Katerina, had been hiding out at the property in northwest Russia for three days.
After being tracked down by police, they allegedly filmed themselves engaging in a shootout with officers and streamed it live on Periscope.
They also posted a video on Instagram, in which Katerina described how she ran away with Denis after a family row, RT.com reports.
She said she and her mum had fallen out over a sleepover at her friend's house.
"I wasn’t allowed to go, but I went anyway. They found me at night… It was harsh and it all happened in front of Denis and his mother," Katerina said in the footage.
"I ran away again."
It is thought that she and Denis were in a relationship at the time of their deaths.
They were later found dead with gunshot wounds.
The couple are believed to have planned their double suicide, with Katerina having left a goodbye note on the Russian social network VK.
