Unfortunately the prison system doesn't really rehabilitate the suspect, in any country. Let me explain, if someone commits a crime against another individual, the victim is demanding justice, or If the victim is murdered, the victims family demands justice. The natural justice that the victim or the victims relatives demand, is most likely to make the suspect go through the same thing that the victim was going trough. The next thing that will most likely happen, is that another relative from the suspect will demand justice.

The ball will just go back and forth.

So the obvious problem is that basically it's a never ending battle of revenge, this is where the prison system actually helps. The sentence of prison time is actually putting the revenge cycle to an end. Because the victim is satisfied because of the prison sentence. However, the one who committed the crime will most certainly not get rehabilitated. Due to the environment and people that the suspect will have to connect with to be able to survive and stay busy in prison.

The point is that the prison system is solely designed to help the victim, not the criminal.

I believe that the prison system is an outdated approach that doesn't suit the modern society (unless of course it's an extreme case). A more modern solution would still include prison time. However with a mandatory long process that includes new routines, friends, education, detox, hobbies or whatever it might be that has to be engraved into the suspect.

If the suspect is not given a proper chance to rehabilitate it's always successively going to get worse.
