En spontan gissning är att isen som ligger på havet eller sjön trycks mot stranden där det filmas. Så trycks isen upp som nån slags kontinentalplattor, typ Himalaya.

Just like the ice under a skater's blade, at the point of contact, the melting point of the strained ice momentarily drops. A thin band of ice liquifies and sprays outward under pressure where the supercooled water instantly recrystallizes into beautiful needles. Conditions have to be perfect for this to happen. If it was colder outside, strain would build up until the ice explosively fractured into blocks or pressure ridges. Any warmer and the ice would just pile up on shore.
